The Paisley Editor is joining with author Shawn McGuire on an anthology! The to-be-named anthology is open to submissions of art and the written word in any genre. The two major requirements are that it be appropriate for a YA/NA audience and it has to be about a wish.
The Wish Makers Anthology Contest Rules:
All submissions must be received by July 31, 2015.
Publication with Brown Bag Books will be September 2015.
The theme of your submission should revolve around wishes.
Any genre is acceptable as long as the submission is appropriate for a young adult or new adult audience.
Stories need not contain a Happily Ever After, but they should have a resolution. Stories with cliffhangers and chapter excerpts of longer works will not be accepted.
Short stories, poems, letters (in the feel of “Dear Teen Me”), etc. should be 1,500-3,000 words. Letters and poems may be shorter.
Any iIlustrations/art work should be submitted in black and white.
Submissions should be sent as a .docx, .doc, or .rtf file (do not embed in the email) or .png or .jpeg for illustrations to Shawn@Shawn-McGuire.com. Submissions pasted into the body of an email message will not be read.
The manuscript should be double-spaced, 12-point type, Times New Roman or Arial. All spelling should be in American English.
Format the work as it will be read – i.e. use bold or italic fonts as necessary.
No headers, footers, or page numbers necessary.
No simultaneous submissions, please. If you submit your work to the contest, please do not send it to other publishers at the same time.
By submitting your work to this contest, you agree to give Brown Bag Books exclusive rights to both print and electronic versions for a period of six-months starting with the date of publication, anticipated to be September 1, 2015 but not later than September 15, 2015. At the end of the six-month exclusive (March 15, 2016 at the latest), you are free to sell or publish your work elsewhere. You keep all other rights including the original copyright.
Ebooks and print books will be sold exclusively through Amazon/CreateSpace.
All anthology contributors will be able to purchase print copies of the book at cost (print cost plus shipping) via Shawn McGuire through CreateSpace. You are free to resell your copies anywhere you like.
In lieu of paying an entry fee for this contest, no royalties will be paid. Instead, once publication costs (cover art, editing, formatting, etc.) are recouped by Brown Bag Books, proceeds will be donated to charitable organizations such as food banks, soup kitchens, domestic abuse organizations, or suicide prevention organizations.
Author/Artist bios (50-word max) and 2-3 social media links will be included in the book. Providing your bio and links is your responsibility. You can include your bio as a separate attached file with your submission, or, if we accept your story/art, you can return your bio with the signed contract.
Submissions will be sent blindly (no names attached) to the book’s editor, Maria Pease, The Paisley Editor (http://editor.the-paisley.com). She will choose the winners and do light editing (typos, clarity, etc) to the work.
You may withdraw your submission from consideration at any time up until August 15, 2015.
If your work is selected for the anthology, you will be asked to participate in online marketing efforts. (ie. a Facebook Party, Cover Reveal, Release Day Blitz, etc.)
If your work is selected for the anthology, you will be asked to sign an agreement covering the rules and expectations stated here.
